1 Can skin resurfacing treatments performed at home replace dermatological treatment at a medical practice?
Certain home skin resurfacing programmes contain the same agents as those used by the dermatologist, but with lower concentrations: they are less aggressive than treatment given by practitioners but provide results that are noticeable from the first application. If you are apprehensive about the aggressiveness of the treatment at the dermatologist’s, begin by using the resurfacing kits at home.

2 What is the difference between a chemical peel and dermabrasion?
A peel is a chemical dermatological technique that consists of “dissolving” the outer layer of the epidermis by applying a strong concentration of hydroxyl acids. A dermabrasion treatment is a manual technique which consists of “rubbing down” the epidermis using aluminium crystals. Both treatments boost cell renewal.

3 And what is the difference between a “classic” exfoliation and a dermabrasion?

A “classic” exfoliation is performed using synthetic or natural microbeads. It only acts on the outer layer and simply cleans the skin. A dermabrasion treatment is performed with aluminium crystals, which are very hard and very irregular small particles. A dermabrasion is a specific treatment whose effect on the epidermis is deeper than that of a “classic” exfoliation.
